The village of Kikobero is situated in the mountains surrounding the town Mbale in Eastern Uganda. It is a rural, agricultural village where the people constantly face poverty and famine and have little hope for the future. It has been forgotten and abandoned by the Ugandan government and very little other aid work happens here.

Many desperate parents abandon their children or send them to beg on the streets in the nearby towns. It is common for children find themselves as heads of the household who are reduced to foraging in the forest for fire wood to keep their families warm at night.

Patchwork Kids has also been able to give blankets for children like these and provide a new roof for one family.

The preschool in Kikobero is the first of its kind, offering children in the village a head start in education and giving the community a sense of hope for the future.

For this community, education is the only sustainable hope. For these children it is a lifeline.
